{"id":5499,"date":"2014-07-09T17:34:24","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T17:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jfcy.org\/?post_type=jfcy-in-the-courts&#038;p=5499"},"modified":"2023-11-16T14:21:32","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T19:21:32","slug":"ashley-smith-inquest","status":"publish","type":"jfcy-in-the-courts","link":"https:\/\/jfcy.org\/en\/cases-decisions\/ashley-smith-inquest\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashley Smith Inquest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ashley Smith inquest was an Ontario coroner&#8217;s inquest into the death of young offender Ashley Smith, a teenager who died by self-inflicted strangulation on October 19, 2007, while she was in custody and under suicide watch at the Grand Valley Institution for Women.<\/p>\n<p>At the inquest, JFCY acted as legal representative for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.empowermentcouncil.ca\/\">Empowerment Council<\/a>.
